Our Tips for Timeless Design.

When it comes to selling property, there’s no denying that a timeless interior is quick to appeal to the masses of potential buyers, especially in Perth! Timeless interior design exudes a sense of sophistication and class, whilst creating a welcoming and homely environment which can be easily lived-in and enjoyed for many years to come.

If you’re looking to make some cosmetic improvements to your home prior to sale, we hope to share with you some of the key things to consider if you’re wanting to achieve that timeless and classic look.

Function should be the focus.

Whilst it’s not necessarily glamorous to think about energy efficiency, storage space and durable finishes, these functional elements are definitely front of mind for prospective buyers and, one of the few things that trump’s style when buying property, is function.

Functionality of a home can truly stand the test of time if measured and implemented correctly. If you’re confined by space and finishes, we suggest starting with the scale and proportion of your rooms in order to demonstrate the functionality of the home.

Start by thinking about how large or small the rooms are. Consider how well your furniture fits into the space. Are there obvious pathways and thoroughfares throughout the home? A well-proportioned interior will have furniture that is neither too large that it crams the room or too small that it seems to get lost - so finding something that fits just right is absolutely critical.

Look to trends for inspiration.

Similarly to fashion, interior trends are quick to change and evolve but if you’re committed to achieving a timeless interior at your home, we suggest trying to turn a blind eye to the trends. Instead, focus on styles that last and those that you truly love.

Our advice around this is to be sure not to rush out to paint the walls in the latest Pantone colour way or to purchase trendy furniture, especially big ticket items like sofas and dining suites. Instead, consider modernising the space with some trend-focused art and decorative elements such as lamps, cushions and bedding. That way, regardless of the time period of your architecture or furnishings, your interior will always feel reflective of a modern style.

Think classic .

When trying to create a cohesive feel throughout the entire home, it’s important to consider how the interior style of the space works with the architectural features of the home. To complete the look, we encourage you to opt for materials and finishes of quality, in a neutral colour palette. Choose lasting fabrics like velvets, cottons and linens to complete the elegant look.

A timeless interior is also well-balanced so we suggest playing with symmetry as much as possible. To do this, pick a notable focal point for each room, like a fireplace or piece of artwork, and build the room concept from there.

Stick it in neutral.

Neutrals are key to nailing the timeless look as a neutral palette simply never dates. Think beiges, greys and whites on repeat. But, if you’re worried styling with neutrals means boring, then we are here to tell you, you are wrong! There are so many ways to introduce texture and interest through different materials, finishes and shades which will keep the space captivating to the eye.

If you need to fall back on a pop of colour to add some depth and dimension, then we encourage a spot of navy blue, dark green or black. These colours are our go-to options to best complement a neutral palette.
