How To: Holiday at Home
With many of us left disappointed by interstate travel bans these school holidays, we wanted to encourage you all to find bliss in holidaying at home. We know your living room littered with toys isn’t quite the beautiful family holiday you had planned, but there are so many ways you can incorporate a getaway vibe into your home interior that will be sure to bring you out of those holiday blues!
Be inspired.
In order to create that holiday feeling at home, you need inspiration and what better place to look than through your holiday’s past. We encourage you to hunt for special treasures that prompt the memories you’ve shared throughout the special places you’ve visited over the years. Remember, a holiday memento is not the same thing as a tacky souvenir! Maybe it’s a dinner set covered in yellow lemons to remind you of that Italian summer in Capri or a glorious tapestry that takes you back to the Souks of Marrakech. These carefully curated pieces act as special reminders that will transport you to all the good times - who doesn’t love to reminisce?!
Incorporate holiday scents.
Scent plays a massive role in transporting you back to a blissful location or creating a holiday-like feeling at home. We suggest finding a candle that captures the essence of your favourite destination. Glasshouse Candles are great for this! They have an impressive collection that has been carefully created to reflect a range of global destinations such as Kyoto, Queenstown, Barcelona and Santorini.
Recreate a holiday dish
This is one of our favourite ways to bring a holiday vibe to home as flavours have the ability to evoke memories and transport you back to your most memorable holiday settings. Now, you could just keep dreaming about that culinary delight or you could get in the kitchen and recreate it! If you leave a little to be desired in the kitchen, then we suggest purchasing a cookbook from one of the restaurants you’ve visited or revisit one of your favourite holiday eateries online to see if they might share their recipes. At Perth Style Company, we can safely say we’ve all tried to recreate the Mie Goreng from our favourite Balinese restaurants!
