Which interior style is best when selling property?

Selling a property and making sure you get the highest possible selling price isn’t always an easy feat. In fact, just because a property market is “hot”, doesn’t automatically mean you’re in for an easy sell. That’s where the power of property presentation comes into play!

While most sellers have heard advice around decluttering and making small improvements, not everyone is fully aware of the impact interior styles can have on a potential buyer. First impressions really are everything and when you pay close attention to your property’s interior, you have the power to add as much as 12% onto the asking price - can you believe that?!

So, which interior style is best when selling property? Well, you’ll just have to read on to find out!

A twist on classic.

When it comes to selling homes, you can’t go wrong by sticking to the trends that tend to resurface year-after-year. In our opinion, this is a timeless, neutral design with classic shapes and finishes. This concept truly has the power to attract buyers from every direction!

Gone are the days of grey walls or a bright colour pop. In 2022, prospective buyers are responding to designs that cultivate a light and bright, warm and welcoming feeling. Think white walls, simple countertops, neutral window dressings and sleek furnishings all in natural fabrics and materials. Not only do these homes photograph amazingly for marketing campaigns, they also offer an enduring feeling that really pulls on the heartstrings of buyers!

Fresh and modern.

Whilst state-of-the-art homes will always play a special role in the property market, the majority of buyers find appeal in a home that is simply fresh and modern. You know, a home that doesn’t scream LIVED IN! OUTDATED! NEEDS A LOT OF WORK!

So, what exactly does that mean for property sellers? Typically, a modern interior design style is characterised by a monochromatic colour palette, clean lines, minimalism, natural materials and loads of natural light.

If your property is lacking in some of these features, think of subtle ways you can inject some modern elements. We always turn to the tap ware in wet areas, decorative items and light fixtures throughout as a tell-tale of the property’s age.

A contemporary approach.

While a seller would want their home to look lived-in and not overly sterile, they’ll also want to make sure that their home isn’t so overly personalised that it turns people off. For us, this means one thing and one thing only, a contemporary approach is needed!

Fundamentally, a contemporary interior style of decorating is defined by simplicity, subtle sophistication, deliberate use of texture and clean lines. A contemporary home focuses on interiors that showcase spaces rather than things so decluttering is your best friend with this approach.

So, which interior style is actually best when selling? That’s up for you to decide! Our biggest piece of advice when selling is to make sure your entire property is cohesive. When choosing an interior style, think about a style that will best suit the overall theme and direction of your entire property. For example, if you’re selling an original character home in Mt Hawthorn, then we think a classic approach would be the optimum option for you as the interior will pay homage to all of the timely, ornate features of the property. Good luck!
