Declutter and Depersonalise

It’s time to strip it back. Removing unnecessary furniture and personal items can make rooms look larger and leave gaps for the buyer to picture their own lifestyle, in your property. Things such as memorabilia, excessive family photographs or intense heirlooms should be safely stored during the selling period. Instead, light decorative items and playful artwork can take its place. But, don’t feel like you have to throw away these personal belongings, they can take right of place in your next home, instead look at neatly packing them away in areas such as your garage for the time being.

Time to Clean

Put on your favourite playlist and grab your tools - it’s cleaning time! Taking the time to scrub up your house will pay off when people are walking through your property. Using a magic eraser to clean scuff marks on walls, and picking up the leaves in the backyard will give potential buyers the opportunity to see your property at its absolute best.

Our favourite scented all-purpose cleaner is made up of just vinegar, lemon, rosemary and warm water. See our recipe below;

You'll need one part white vinegar, one part water, lemon rind, rosemary sprigs.

Combine the above ingredients together, pour into a spray bottle, shake, and then let infuse for a week before using. Once done, you can use the natural solution to remove hard water stains, wipe away wall smudges, and much more.

Caution: Do not use acidic cleaners on granite, as they will etch the stone.

Create Space

Take the time to walk through your home yourself. It’s all about the journey. From the front door, which room do you walk in first? Are there any obstacles in the way? It might be necessary to reshuffle furniture, to define rooms, create walkways and lead the potential buyer on a tour through your property. Walking this journey, is a good way to spot cluttered areas as well us under-utilised areas that could be better highlighted to potential buyers.

Keep it Neutral

If you are considering painting, keep it cool, calm and collected. Having a neutral backdrop will be less distracting and appeal to the vast majority of potential buyers. It will also help capture the natural sunlight flowing through your home. From there you can add accents and create focal points through things such as pillows, throws and accessories. It might be worth purchasing items such as sleek soap bottles for your bathrooms, a lush throw for your living room and seasonal floristry to highlight important areas of your property.

Finishing Touches

When it comes to game day for your property, opening windows and access to outdoor areas will let fresh air and sunlight through your home and create a sense of nature that potential buyers can connect with. Lighting a candle or using diffusers in some rooms can also help leave a lasting impression on your viewers. These little elements can often be overlooked but are so easily recognisable and easy to implement.
