Right at home with SJ in City Beach.

In this month’s edition of Right at home with SJ, Sara speaks with Lisa and Keegan of Avanti Builders - the owners and builder of our recent project in City Beach.

Tell us about how the initial concept for the design and location was born…

At Avanti Builders, we always build homes that we could actually live in and imagine our family living there. This project was all about creating a modern, mid-century family home - a luxurious, single story home in leafy, central City Beach. The home has west-facing frontage with a large balcony for the summer sea breeze and sunset skies. We’ve connected all areas of living to the central northern hub that opens up to the alfresco dining and lap pool which keeps family living functional, but also allows space to be enjoyed individually.

What are your favourite features?

The floor plan and function of the home. I love the free form organic stone used inside and outside.

The vertical lines throughout in all the different materials - tiles, timber and steel cabinetry.

Highlight widows and large sliding doors allow the natural light inside, highlighting the native plants and mature trees.

The custom made black and gold lights tie in with the door handles and kitchen and bathroom hardware.

Features throughout the house all compliment each other and come together with a continuous flow and balance.

The apartment feature is very unique at the front of the home. What was your thought process around this?

The space has multi-functional use, especially with its own entrance allowing the space appealing to adult kids living or returning home, working home office, an au pair, grandparents’ accommodation or coastal payed accommodation like AirBNB.

As parents of three kids (24 years, 22 years, and 7 years) who run their business from home, the apartment feature definitely appeals to us and a wide demographic of potential buyers.

The resort style open-plan living you repeat in your designs creates such a clever sense of scale and opulence. How do you envisage the new owners optimising this space?

A home is your sanctuary, the place memories are made and good times shared.

Opening up 7 meter sliding doors to the outside alfresco, framed by lush grass and tress, completed with a 15 meter lap pool is the perfect summers fiesta for large families.

Winter nights watching the storm come through the 5 meter west facing balcony sliding doors can be enjoyed in front of the log fire.

Adults can reside to the rear of the house where the retreat adjoins the master bedroom allowing for a winter or summer escape.

The morning or afternoon sun can be enjoyed overlooking the skyline trees and pool in a quiet space closed off by slick steal doors. It’s such a treat!

Any special stories you are willing to share?

From the moment the concept entered our head, we visualised how we would live in the home particularly in the kitchen - how do we want this kitchen to function, connect, feel and look? Also, what is the purpose of entertaining in the home? Making people connect in the hub of the home flowing between the the outdoor cooking area and kitchen allows the two spaces to become one.

We do this with every space, from lying on a bed to sitting in a chair.

We want every space in the house to be enjoyed with the eye, capturing the beautiful natural light entering through the rooms whilst connecting the continuous features of the house.

When it came to presenting the end product, how did our staging play a role?

The furniture styling was considered right from the beginning. I knew that Perth Style Co. were going to stage this home.

Perth Style Co. understood the homes style and concept, allowing features of the house to stand out by choosing luxe furniture to compliment them.

Proportion and positioning pieces to add to the style of the home and its function but also making it feel warm and homely.

The finishing touches in the bathrooms completes the feeling of a space to embrace and enjoy the luxury.
