Turning your new house into a home.

There’s something so beautiful about walking into a house that just feels like your own special sanctuary, a place that reflects the people that live there and their personalities so well.

If you’re lucky enough to be a new homeowner this Spring then you might be on the search for ways to make your new space feel more like your own. With a bit of tweaking and a few additions, you’ll be able to turn your new space into a warm, welcoming home with ease.

Think sentimental ly.

There’s no doubt that filling your home with sentimental pieces is key to ensuring it feels like your home and your comfort space.

Start by looking over your belongings that you’ve collected over the years, and consider how you’re able to make them a feature or key item in each room.

Maybe it’s a particular ceramic treasure that transports you to that European holiday in 2014 or a special art piece that has been passed down from generation to generation - filling your space with these sentimental objects is what makes your house feel like a home.

Showcase your memories .

Often when homeowners move to a new place, there’s an overwhelming sense of unsettlement. After the emotional and stressful experience of selling and moving, we find ourselves in a new environment that doesn't quite feel right, even if it’s filled with all our stuff from the old place. This is where your special memories come into play!

It’s time to draw on that memory bank by framing up your personal photos of family, friends and your furry friends. Make use of the many adventures you’ve had over the years to inject some character and personality into your new home.

You could even create a gallery wall of several photos in a variety of frames or adorn your walls with some of your child’s favourite artworks. You’ll be surprised what a nice frame can do to their masterpiece - trust us!

Do you have enough storage ?

Often when decorating, we focus on the design elements first and the necessities of quality storage becomes an afterthought. Yet, functionality is a big component of any home, especially when you have the opportunity to set up from scratch. We’re here to remind you that the practicality of the space is super important in settling into your new home and should be front of mind when you’re considering the flow of each room.

Think about investing in storage that looks visually pleasing and adds another layer of texture to your space. For example, a timber buffet, an open bookcase or a couple of trendy baskets that can enhance the feeling of your home whilst doubling as a useful storage solution.

Use your blank walls.

Now, if you’ve moved in and found yourself a little short of floor space, we suggest looking up! Utilising your walls not only adds interest, it also improves the functionality of your interiors.

A couple of simple shelves filled with neatly arranged personal items can create a great visual impact whilst leaving more floor space for the important things.

Finishing touches .

Your home only needs a handful of finishing touches to take it to the next level.

Consider a beautiful vase of flowers on your dining table, a few indoor plants near the window and some plush feature cushions on your sofa.

These final touches inject a bit of personality, instantly lifting your space to signify that you’re house proud and totally at home in your new space!
