How to: Turn up the heat in your home this winter.

Perth’s winter is well and truly in full force and, whilst we can still enjoy the odd sunny winter’s day, the mornings and evenings are beyond chilly!

Although we can all agree that keeping warm and toasty is our first priority, there is no reason to sacrifice the stylish appearance of our surroundings to do so.

From adding some snug layers to upgrading your window coverings, we list some simple and stylish ways to bring the heat to your home over the next few months, creating a cosy haven that will be sure to chase away those winter blues.

Layer it up.

Layers are a styling technique that we love to use every season but they have more of a practical purpose as the cool winter months roll around. Plus, they are an easy solution that can be applied to almost every room of the house.

Think knitted throws to your living area, plush velvet cushions to your bedroom and hints of timber or brass to your coffee table or shelving units. You will be amazed how just a few seasonal touches can make a huge difference in creating a snug, homely atmosphere.

Rugs + runners.

If you have wooden floorboards, exposed concrete or tiled floors, then rug up - literally! Not only are these surfaces cold to walk on, they also don’t help in holding any heat in the home so any distance you can put between yourself and the cold surfaces will make a huge difference!

The same can be said for wet areas like bathrooms and laundries which aren’t typically warm or welcoming spaces. This tends to make showering or the washing a bit more difficult in the cooler months. Turn toward a plush bath mat or large rug which will help to cosy up cold tiles and some soft new bath towels to complete the feeling.

Set the mood.

It’s easy to feel warm and at peace in your home if the mood is right. Lighting is one of the easiest and most affordable ways to transform your home into a snuggly and inviting haven. Use lamps to illuminate dark corners and scented candles to add a warm glow throughout your interiors.

If that’s not enough, then we suggest thinking about sounds too. For us, there’s nothing better than the sound of a crackling fireplace or gentle rainfall outside but there’s always the perfect playlist too. Consider a mellow set of tunes that will help you relax and kick back to enjoy your homely space.

Window wonders.

When that winter chill starts to come through, it can be tempting to keep your home shut up all day, yet we’re here to encourage the opposite! By opening your curtains, blinds or shutters during the day, you're letting in plenty of that toasty sunlight which will warm the rooms naturally.

It’s always an idea to invest in lined curtains too to help insulate your windows, effectively trapping the heat inside. If you already have curtains, you can simply add your own lining to the inside or double them up.
