Step up your gift wrap game this Christmas.

For many of us, finding the perfect Christmas gift for that special someone in our life is the easy part; it’s the wrapping of those presents that becomes challenging! Now, whether you’ve resigned yourself to the fact that your present wrapping skills will never be up to par, or if you find yourself drowning in a sea of wrapping paper and ribbon every December, then you’re in the right place. Our team has collected their top tips for wrapping to ensure your gifts stand out from the crowd this Christmas and for every other special occasion to come!

Perfecting the wrap.

Be prepared

To start, get yourself organised. Gather our presents, the wrapping paper, scissors, and tape, before clearing a large, flat surface, such as a kitchen table which will serve as your worktop.

Boxes, boxes, boxes

When it comes to wrapping, boxes are your best friend! After all, it's so much easier to wrap something square or rectangular so do yourself a favour and pack your gift into a box. Gift boxes are also a great solution for fragile items which can be easily damaged. Use some tissue paper to protect the item, then secure within a box for the ultimate safety.

Choosing the ideal wrapping paper

Want to know the cardinal rule for choosing wrapping paper? The thicker, the better! But, that doesn’t mean that colour and design are tossed to the side! It’s important to find the perfect roll that ticks every box. Bonus points go to a wrap with a grid pattern on the back - this really helps in the trimming process to ensure you’re left with the right amount of paper.

Secure the goods!

To ensure a clean and professional finish to your wrap, tape will become your very best friend. Be sure to take some extra time to fold lines carefully, straight and with precision.

PSCO. Top Tip; Double-sided tape is your secret weapon for a neat seam! Stock up on a bulk package of rolls now to last you all Christmas.

Finesse with the perfect finishing touch.

Once you’ve nailed the wrap, we encourage you to get creative with the finishing touches! Whether you opt to turn your boxes into snowmen, accent them with tiny Christmas trees, or use unique DIY gift tags, the world is your oyster when it comes to taking your gift wrap to the next level.

A classic ribbon and bow.

At Perth Style Company, we really believe that you can’t go past a traditional ribbon and bow. The quintessential finish to any present year-round, the ribbon and bow combo really helps to add some personality to your package.

Be sure to get creative with your ribbon choice by curling the ends, opting for a paper / ribbon clash or mixing it up between bows and knots. There are so many ways to take this classic option into 2021 with a fresh, modern twist.

Whilst ribbon can be expensive, it’s important to remember you don’t have to use a lot of it, and you don't have to use it on everything. Use it on one or two items under the tree so they pop out, and then use string or twine on the rest.

PSCO. Top Tip; If you have a good ribbon, save it and use it again next year.

Tree decorations

Is it time to add a little sparkle? We love to include some leftover decorations from our Christmas tree into our wrap designs. Not only is this an inexpensive way to repurpose your older decorations, it really helps to add layers and dimension to your wrapping. Typically secured via a ribbon, baubles and other tree decorations are a super easy way to wow your friends and family this Christmas!

Add natural touches

Instantly dress up any gift with a snip of pine, seasonal sprig, cinnamon stick or another festive frond. A snippet of greenery gives a rustic and organic feel to the package, offering a nice break from a paper or fabric bow. Pair it back with a plain wrapping paper and the recipient of your gift will really love this special, non-traditional topper!
