SJ’s Spring Cleaning Checklist.
Inside the home.
Refresh each bedroom.
It’s important to give each room of your home some attention when it comes to Spring cleaning but, most importantly, a big portion of your time should be spent on each bedroom. This is the time to flip mattresses, wash comforters and mattress protectors as well as get your pillows and quilts professionally dry cleaned. It’s also prime time to swap out your warm winter bedding and knitted throw blankets with more breathable spring / summer options like your linen or cotton sets.
Get to those hard to reach places.
Spring cleaning is an opportunity to address those hard to reach surfaces that are often overlooked in your daily or weekly cleaning routines. Once a year, give your baseboards, door frames, and walls a good clean. Wash them with a sponge and a squirt of dishwashing liquid mixed in a bucket of warm water for the perfect finish.
Deep clean all carpets and rugs.
To maintain your carpets and floor rugs, you may need to have them cleaned professionally every 12-18 months. Otherwise, you can tackle the DIY option by renting a deep cleaner for home use. Follow the directions and ensure you give them a quality rinse, before drying carefully to ensure you get the best clean.
Outside the home.
Wash your windows and sliding door tracks.
Spring is the optimum time for window cleaning because it’s not too hot yet, which often causes the cleaning solution to dry quickly and become streaky. Using warm water and a microfiber cloth will typically clean windows more effectively than using harsh chemicals. Otherwise, make your own glass cleaning solution with 1/4 cup rubbing alcohol, 1/3 cup vinegar, and distilled water.
Outdoor light fixtures and fans.
It’s time to spruce up the backyard pre-entertaining season. Get your microfiber cloth at the ready to dust all the fixtures and bulbs you can reach. To clean grimy areas, lightly dampen a cloth with vinegar and wipe. For ceiling fans, skip the ladder and use an extendable duster. Be sure to tackle all fixtures before cleaning the rest of the room, so any errant falling dust doesn't disrupt already-clean surfaces.
Yearly gutter maintenance.
Your roof's drainage system diverts thousands of litres of water from your home's exterior and walls every year. So, naturally this hardworking system merits a bi-annual inspection! Make the effort to clean and repair gutters and downpipes every spring and autumn to ensure they’re working most efficiently.
