Refreshing your home interiors for the season change.

As the seasons change and the weather begins to shift, we update many things in our lives from our wardrobe essentials to pantry staples and everything in between. Similarly, seasonal changes are the perfect time to make a few small changes to our home interiors, allowing us to experiment with fresh colours, patterns and textures that will ensure we soak up all that the new season brings to our home life.

For us here in Perth, we’re really noticing those hot summer days fade away as we welcome the shorter, cooler days of autumn and winter. So, what does that mean for our home interiors? Today, we’re sharing some easy and effective ways to adapt your home to a warm, welcoming sanctuary for the months to come.

Bring on those autumnal vibes!

Inject warmth through colour.

As the days begin to shorten and the air gets cooler, now’s the time to get organised and prepare your home for the transformative autumn season. Start off simply by adding warmth through colour - embrace those rich autumnal tones of burgundy, burnt orange and mustard yellow. This can be easily applied through your cushions, artwork choices and decorative ornaments.

Layer it up.

There’s no denying that we are huge fans of layering no matter the season, but as we head into the cooler months, it becomes less of a styling tool and more of a necessity! If you haven’t already embraced the technique, then start by layering soft furnishings with cushions and throw blankets. The key here is to embrace textural fabrics like velvets, chunky knits and knitted weaves to add plenty of interest and diversity.

Use dried florals and foliage.

Again, we can’t say we don’t love florals and foliage all year-round, but as we head into autumn it’s all about those dried stems. Whilst it might be cliche to some, there is just something about dried florals and foliage that screams, “Winter is coming” to us! Our favourites are arrangements of dried eucalyptus, stirlingia and garden magnolia.

Time for winter coziness.

Set the mood.

Let’s be honest, incredible winter spaces all come down to ambiance and the key to nailing this is all in the lighting! As our days start to get shorter with less natural light in the home, it’s time to embrace some cosy, artificial lighting. Think elegant floor lamps and trendy table lamps to create moody shadows throughout your space.

Roll out the rugs.

We all love timber floorboards and trendy tiles in the summer months, but these can be cold under our feet throughout winter. So, it’s the perfect time to roll out those plush floor rugs and runners throughout the home. Not only will these be warm for our feet as we walk throughout the house, but they will also help to insulate the home - what a win-win!

It’s all in the detail.

Finally, don’t neglect those finishing touches which can really make a huge difference to the overall feel of your home throughout those winter months. Try creating a neat reading nook with a carefully curated stack of your favourite novels. Or, swap those summery scents for ones with a spicier note - look out for scents with caramel, cinnamon or earthier notes like sandalwood.
