Five interior trends we can't get enough of!

There has been so much to get excited about this year in interior trends, even amid a global pandemic! We have been so caught up in all of the beautiful design concepts emerging from all corners of the world as the effects of Covid-19 have had a huge impact on the type of homes we want to create and live in.

Over the last 12 months, as we have been encouraged to spend more time at home, we have seen a huge shift toward creating places that feel amazing. Most of us are looking for objects, furniture and artwork that reflects our passions and places we love, as well as a space that allows for work, relaxation, hobbies and play.

Moreover, we’ve found there is also a HUGE desire from people to reconnect with nature, so as a result, we’re noticing more and more people moving away from hard lines to warm, neutral tones, organic shapes and a lot more colour. Here are the top 5 interior trends we can not get enough of in 2021.

The finer details

We think the biggest trend for 2021 is attention to detail, which put simply, is right up our alley!

After the whirlwind that was 2020 and with everyone spending more time at home, renovations and interior design has become much more personal and well-considered.

Individuals are putting much more care and consideration into their homes and no matter what interior design scheme you naturally fall for, whether it’s Mid-Century Modern, Eclectic or Hamptons, we’re seeing a movement toward way less clutter and cleaner design principles which supports easy-living.

An Earthy Palette

We’re the first ones to admit that a cool, monochromatic palette has ruled our interiors for a few years now, but we simply can’t get enough of the warm neutrals these days, and it appears they are certainly having their moment in the spotlight!

Not only are we seeing these earthy shades filling the pages of interior magazines and our social media feeds, but paint suppliers such as Dulux are jumping right on the trend with their Grounded palette which showcases a range of warm neutral colours to consider for your walls this year.

If you’re looking for ways to incorporate the natural, earthy tones into your own place, consider turning to soft furnishings or decorative pieces in rust, warm greens, deep reds and sultry browns. We also suggest gravitating toward rugs and textile pieces that embrace flaws and natural movement to add character to your earthy palette.

Organic or Sculptural Shapes

For the last decade, we have seen straight lines and hard edges dominate the design world but throughout the global pandemic, individuals are searching for interior spaces that soothe and cocoon homeowners.

One way we are seeing this is through designers embracing curved pieces with organic shapes and finishes. You’ll see the latest ranges by furniture and homewares brands embracing furniture items with chunky, curvaceous silhouettes whilst architects and builders move toward rounded finishes and arched features.

We’re loving the curved occasional chairs and find them a super easy addition to homes. They’re a token way of embracing elements of the trend without letting it rule your entire space.

A hint of maximalism

A trend that doesn’t quite correlate with our home staging principals but we’re really loving from the sidelines is the rise of maximalist design.

Thanks to the interior queen herself, Kelly Wearstler, maximalism is making a new-age name for itself as more people embrace the free-spirited essence of the design principle.

We’re loving the bravely mixed loud patterns, eclectic mix of excessive prints, and bold, saturated colour choices that are combined to create playful layers that are so fun and unique to each individual space.

Bold Colour + Pattern

We never thought we would see the day that we would be excited about embracing colour and pattern yet, here we are!

We’ve noticed a real move toward splashes of bold colour hues and playful patterns filling our feeds and aren’t they a sure fire way of making a statement.

To switch up your colours this winter, turn toward burnt orange or peacock blue to add some real depth to your space and keep your interiors looking fresh over the next couple of months. These colours are also key for adding a playful element that is very much needed to spice things up throughout the cool winter months.

As for pattern, we suggest looking to make a statement with bold wallpaper or large scale artwork. This would have been somewhat crazy a few years ago, but we’re really enjoying the movement toward adventurous and daring design choices as people embrace an individualistic and personal approach to interiors.
